The
Territorial Aid Operation for Treatment and Isolation in Response to COVID-19 (Tayta Operation) —one of the multisectoral strategies implemented by the Executive Branch to combat the coronavirus pandemic in the country— has so far benefited some 100,000 vulnerable families,
Defense Minister Jorge Chavez reported on Monday.
During a delivery of food baskets in Lima's Chorrillos district, he noted that these families represent half a million people and have received the necessary health support.
However, Chavez explained that necessary adjustments are being made to strengthen the monitoring and control of the COVID-19 patients diagnosed during the interventions.
"The Tayta plan has benefited 100,000 families and we have ensured due process for these half a million people (…). We are working to monitor the evolution of patients who tested positive for COVID-19, with the support of the health sector and the
Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud)," he pointed out.
Tayta Operation is led by the Ministry of Health and EsSalud, through rapid response teams made up of doctors, nurses and health technicians; as well as by the Ministries of Defense and Interior, through personnel from the Armed Forces and the National Police, respectively, who provide security and support to the operations.
All the people who tested positive for COVID-19 have received free early treatment and preventive medication, in addition to complying with home isolation.
In addition, they were given food support for 15 days —the required period of self-isolation— to ensure they stay at home.
Interventions are coordinated with regional and local governments to reach the areas where the target population is located.
