Peruvian Production Minister Jose Salardi on Thursday affirmed that the constant requests for presidential vacancies filed by Congress do not contribute to the predictability required to govern the country.

"The pandemic slowed down the dynamics that Peru had displayed over recent decades, although it is key that the Legislative and Executive Branches work together to regain high growth rates," he told Andina news agency.

The high-ranking official pointed out that if one thinks about variables such as Country Risk, it is important to rely on a favorable political component.

"This is always important for the management that we plan," he commented.

Likewise, the Cabinet member indicated that —since last March when the new Congress took office— the Executive Branch always had the intention of building bridges for dialogue, as coordinated measures are required for Peru to make progress in the medium and long terms.

The government official specified that three goals have been set thru July 28, 2021, the day on which President Martin Vizcarra's term in office will come to an end. These are: Preventing the current (daily) low COVID-19 infection rates from being reversed, thus avoiding a second wave.

The second goal is to aggressively reactivate the country and make the economy grow at least 10% next year.

Finally, he said the third goal is to implement a transparent transfer process with the next administration which will be elected by Peruvians in the
general elections scheduled for April 11, 2021.
