Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister Mario Lopez affirmed that his sector is handling the participation of international observers in the general elections scheduled for April 11, 2021.

According to Lopez, the ministry is coordinating —with the National Election Board (JNE)— the deployment of electoral observation missions made up of representatives of international organizations such as the Organization of American States (OAS), the European Union, and the Carter Center, among others.

"All this is in line with the provisions of the Government and is intended to ensure free, neutral, democratic, and participatory elections," he said in his speech before the Commission on Budget and General Account of the Republic, in which he presented the budget allocated to his sector for fiscal year 2021.

He went on to say that his sector will organize the holding of general elections in 2021 for Peruvians residing abroad.

He also remarked that his sector is working to ensure that more Peruvians can carry out consular procedures online.

The government official underlined that his portfolio will keep working to increase the number of virtual services in favor of the Peruvian population.
