Peruvian forward Andre Carrillo on Wednesday remarked that —following the Inca country's participation in the 2018 FIFA World Cup— the red-white squad's task is to return to said mega event every four years.

FIFA published an article on its website praising the 27-year-old player as one of the team's outstanding performers during its three World Cup matches.

Peru showed a good performance at the tournament despite the early elimination.

"We've put an end to that bad run. Now it's up to us to make sure we return to the World Cup every four years," the sportsman told FIFA.com.

It must be noted Carrillo was named Budweiser Man of the Match against Australia, in which Peru claimed its first World Cup-tournament win after 40 years

Likewise, he made history by scoring the Incas' first goal at such event after their previous participation in Spain 1982.

Such historic strike against the Socceroos was Carrillo's sixth goal defending the national team.

"It was a wonderful feeling. Although we weren't able to qualify against Australia, we played that match as if it were a final because the Peruvian fans deserved the chance to cheer goals and celebrate a win," he added.

It must be noted Paolo Guerrero remains the squad's all-time top scorer having made a total of 35 goals wearing the red-white jersey.

World Cup experience

According to Carrillo, the team's experience gained in Russia will stand players in good stead, and that results will soon follow.

"The players have grown a lot out here. Youngsters in Peru are dreaming of this. Without a doubt, Peruvian soccer will grow stronger as a result of our experience here," he expressed.

The Watford F.C. athlete also stressed coach Ricardo Gareca has always been an important strategist, as he gives the squad confidence.

He went on to say Gareca did his best to secure the Incas' qualification for this mega tournament.

"The coaching staff has done a flawless job. We're very happy with them," he concluded.
