The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the main commemorative event at the Lima-based National Grand Theater marking the bicentennial of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Peru and the United States.

The anniversary, commemorated on May 2, marked two centuries of friendship, cooperation, and mutual understanding between both nations.

The ceremony brought together high-ranking Peruvian and U.S. authorities, representatives of the Diplomatic Corps, business leaders, opinion makers, and special guests.

Tuesday evening highlighted the historical and cultural ties linking both countries.

Various artistic performances reflected the diversity and closeness among Peruvian, U.S., and Latin American cultures.

The event featured performances by the Peru Jazz band, the National Ballet, and renowned Cuban-American group Gente de Zona.

Their presentations showcased the multiple cultural synergies enriching bilateral relations.

The event coincided with the official visit to Peru by six members of the U.S. House of Representatives, led by Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart.

In that context, Foreign Affairs Minister Carlos Pareja highlighted the strength of the relationship between two partner and allied countries that share common principles and interests.

These include the defense of democracy and the rule of law, the promotion of regional security, the fight against transnational organized crime, and efforts to foster development and the well-being of their nations.

The bicentennial of diplomatic relations represents an opportunity to reaffirm both countries' commitment to a modern, dynamic cooperation agenda focused on benefiting their citizens.
