Peru 2026 Elections: Polling places on June 7 to open at 6:00 a.m.

12:05 | Lima, May. 27.

On Sunday, June 7, when the runoff election will be held, polling places will open at 6:00 a.m. so that polling station members can set up polling tables and voters may enter calmly to cast their ballots, National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) Acting Chief Bernardo Pachas announced Wednesday.

During the supervision of electoral material deployment to the regions alongside National Elections Board representatives, the official stated that authorities aim to speed up the voting process and ensure that voters encounter no problems.

"The plan is to open polling places at 6:00 a.m. so that polling station members, voters, party representatives, media, and all individuals accredited by the National Elections Board may enter in order to get the electoral process moving as quickly as possible and allow voters to cast their ballots calmly," he told reporters.

Pachas said the electoral materials will depart Friday at 10:00 p.m. and will be delivered Saturday no later than 1:00 p.m. so that the runoff election day on Sunday, June 7, can proceed normally.

In that regard, he urged private educational institutions to hand over their facilities Friday because security forces must be stationed there and receive the electoral materials with sufficient time before Sunday.

The ONPE head also called on the government to resolve the agrarian strike in order to avoid any risk to electoral material transportation.

"We call for these trucks and all electoral materials to reach destinations across the country as planned so that all eligible citizens can vote calmly on Sunday, June 7," Pachas said.

He added that coordination is underway with the Armed Forces regarding security measures.
