National Elections Board (JNE) Chairman Roberto Burneo on Wednesday estimated that the proclamation of the Senate and Chamber of Deputies election results could take place in less than a month, depending on the procedural workload.

The JNE head noted that, unlike the first round—which recorded an unprecedented caseload—this stage is expected to involve fewer cases.

However, Burneo warned that there could be requests for vote recounts due to the competition between the two political organizations.

"We estimate that this will depend on the amount of jurisdictional workload involved. We have faced an unprecedented caseload in this first round. We expect it to be lower, considering that only two political organizations are competing," Burneo said.

"So, we estimate that in about a month—or even earlier—we would already be proclaiming the result, depending on the procedural workload we face, because we must also consider that there could be vote recounts," he added.

Asked about a Comptroller's Office report related to the contracting process for electoral material transportation, the JNE chairman avoided commenting in detail.

Burneo said he does not have complete information. He underscored that it is up to that entity to carry out its oversight functions.

Finally, the JNE head called on citizens to turn out in large numbers for the June 7 election.

"We are guaranteeing that all electoral material will be available. Now it is up to citizens to ensure that this is an exemplary election day, marked by responsibility and respect," he concluded.
