Peru to rely on 19.136 million COVID-19 vaccines thru end-July 2021
00:33
| Lima, Jul. 1.
Peru will have received 19,136,100 doses of COVID-19 vaccines until the end of July, an amount that includes the new batches to arrive in the South American country over the coming weeks, Health Minister Oscar Ugarte has announced.
The Cabinet member pointed out that
thanks to the 1,002,000 vaccines welcomed last Tuesday —which were recently donated by the United States Government—
Peru has so far
received 10,639,890 doses from Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Sinopharm.
On Thursday, a new batch purchased from Pfizer will be received, consisting of 497,280 vaccines against COVID-19.
Administered vaccines
Minister Ugarte stressed that so far 7,347,713 doses have been administered
.
Likewise, the figure will increase rapidly because
"starting today we are expanding it (the vaccination program) to all people aged 50 and over
, and we will begin fractionally with those aged 40 next weekend."
Of the 7,347,713 administered doses, 4,342,000 corresponded to the first dose.
"W
e have exceeded 3,005,324 people vaccinated with both doses during Wednesday morning," he emphasized.
The progress made and the number of doses received every week will enable "the Government's initial goal to be reached soon," which consists of immunizing 4.5 million people.
"That is a goal, which we are going to exceed by large," he said
.
