Peru set a record of people vaccinated on a single day. In fact, 233,864 doses against COVID-19 were applied nationwide on July 10, Health Minister Oscar Ugarte reported on Tuesday.

Moreover, the minister thanked the 800 health brigades distributed among 21 vaccination centers, specially prepared for the uninterrupted 36-hour event in Lima Metropolitan Area and Callao.

"Each brigade is made up of three health professionals, including doctors, who are responsible for performing a prior check up on the people who are going to get vaccinated; nurses, who administer vaccines; and technicians, who digitize the information and do the counting," the official said.

Minister Ugarte confirmed similar campaigns for the following two weekends (July 17-18 and July 24-25) to advance with the protection of citizens aged 45 and 46, plus the laggards of previous age ranges, as well as those pending a second dose.

Lastly, Ugarte highlighted the development of the response plan to face a possible third COVID-19 wave, which proposes the articulation of the Health sector and which has led to the implementation of 300 oxygen plants and ICU beds.

It will also contribute to closing gaps in infrastructure and human resources.
