The first day of the Vacunaton (Vaccinathon) has started in Metropolitan Lima and Callao.

This is a mass vaccination event against COVID-19 that began today at 7:00 a.m. (local time) and will end on Sunday at 7:00 p.m.

On this occasion, citizens aged 47 and above will be immunized against coronavirus.

"This is a special day for the Transition and Emergency Government, led by President Francisco Sagasti, since it is the beginning of a new method aimed at vaccinating more people in less time," Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez stressed on the occasion.

"The Vaccinathon is a symbol of life and hope," she added.

In this sense, the high-ranking official requested citizens from the aforementioned age groups to attend the corresponding immunization centers, as 21 of them will operate for 36 hours in a row.

The first Vaccinathon was designed so that people aged between 47 and 49 receive the first dose. Besides, those over 50 years of age can get the second dose that is pending or those, who are lagging behind, can be duly immunized.
