Health Minister Oscar Ugarte has highlighted the first Vaccinathon —held on Saturday and Sunday— in which more than 220,000 doses were administered, thus exceeding the goal of 200,000.

"We have what people would say a rapid count of vaccination, (…), our goal was 200,000 and we have administered more than 220,000, meaning this is a huge success, the objective of vaccinating those who lagged behind and inoculating people aged 47, 48, and 49 has been achieved," Ugarte told local channel Canal N.

Of those inoculated in the first Vaccinathon, between 20% and 25% had not received any dose or had received only the first one.

In this sense, Ugarte noted that this 36-hour vaccination campaign has managed to enhance the protection of the entire population in view of the third wave of COVID-19 in the country.

The head of Minsa mentioned that the second Vaccinathon will take place on July 17 and 18 and will inoculate people in the 45-46 age group with the COVID-19 vaccine.

Meanwhile, he noted that the third Vaccinathon will take place on July 24 and 25.

Moreover, Ugarte reported that more than 380,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine arrived on Sunday, which in addition to the 614,000 received on Saturday, completed the third million sent by the Chinese laboratory so far.

Furthermore, at least 3 million Pfizer vaccines are expected to arrive in August. In this regard, he said the doses secured from this laboratory —for the July-August-September quarter— total 8.4 million.

In addition, 508,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine are expected to arrive next month through the COVAX Facility mechanism.
