Peru President: We respect Judiciary, Congress

16:13 | Cusco (Cusco region), May. 23.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday affirmed his administration respects the Judicial and Legislative Branches; however, if it is necessary to take a firm stance —by asking them to speed up the political reform— then the Executive Power will do so.

In this sense, the Head of State indicated the reform concerning the lifting of parliamentary immunity should be corrected.

Likewise, he stated the country relies on a democratic system, in which diverse opinions and points of view are respected.

Furthermore, the statesman mentioned that —since Congress is allowed to assess his administration through interpellation sessions— Parliament should be evaluated by other State Branch such as the Judicial Power, for instance.

Concerning the possibility of introducing a confidence motion, President Vizcarra assured he expects Parliament to "take the adequate actions to move it forward, so there is no need to use this measure."

As is known, the Vizcarra administration intends to implement a reform in order to enhance the country's political system.

Remarks were made during the Food Forever Experience Symposium in Cusco.
