President Vizcarra: We have the challenge of putting Peru first

13:45 | Lima, Jan. 29.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday affirmed that his administration and the new Congress are challenged to put Peru first, as well as to work without wasting time on pending reforms, fight against corruption, and boosting the economy.

The Head of State said he was convinced that a mature and constructive dialogue can be established with all sectors.

"After learning the results of the last (parliamentary) elections, we have to establish dialogue with all political forces that will be represented in Congress, those that have been elected in a clean and transparent process (...) We have the challenge of putting Peru first," he pointed out.

The top official considered that —while respecting ideological and political differences— the political class can reach consensus for the sake of the country.

As he noted, there is an important work agenda ahead, "and there is no time to lose."

"The political and justice reform cannot wait, the fight against corruption must go on, and we must deepen measures that will invigorate the economy, as well as boost public and private investment throughout the country in order to improve the economic conditions and generate more jobs," he stressed.

He stressed that this is a challenge for everyone, including the "national government, regional governments, and new Congress members."

"Together we must move forward in the construction of a more developed, fair, democratic, and inclusive Peru because the future and viability of the country depend on that," the President concluded.
