Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra this afternoon will arrive in Arequipa region to engage in dialogue with the Southern Macroregion governors about the
Tia Maria mining project.
Within this framework, Development and Social Inclusion Minister Paola Bustamante indicated the conditions to start talks have been created, as the Governors of Tacna, Moquegua, Ica, Apurimac, Madre de Dios, and Arequipa regions promised to act as guarantors of a favorable environment for dialogue.
Likewise, Bustamante mentioned Tacna Region Governor Juan Tonconi was in charge of calling the Head of State and giving him the news about this sign of understanding.
"This first step of listening to each other is very important," she told RPP TV and radio station.
Furthermore, the minister underlined the top official's permanent willingness for dialogue, adding the statesman had said —on several occasions— that he would visit Arequipa region, once the conditions to talk honestly were created.
"Thus, the conditions are given. The Arequipa Region Governor (Elmer Caceres) says he willingly waits for President Vizcarra (...)," the official concluded.

Executive Branch spokespersons warned that —even though the license has been issued— this does not mean the mining corporation can begin operations. It needs to earn —
through dialogue— a social license first.
For its part, the
mining company committed itself not to start operations before setting up a dialogue space to resolve social concerns.
