Peru: President supervises wastewater treatment plant in Piura region

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Friday put into operation the Waste Water Treatment Plant (PTAR) San Martin in the northern city of Piura.

In this sense, over 240,000 Piura region citizens benefit from the culmination and the start of operations of the renewed PTAR San Martin, whose works exceeded S/135 million (US$41 million). 

Likewise, the Head of State underlined this plant is prepared to meet twice the demand of the previous one, adding it went from processing 380 liters of wastewater per second to 700 liters. 

Furthermore, the top official informed the project complied with all the deadlines, as well as the technical specifications. 

He went on to add the Executive Branch works articulately with Piura Region Government, so the treated waters can be adequately used for agriculture in the area

"We have achieved the goal. The task is immense in order to achieve progress and development, but we are here reaffirming the Government's commitment to making progress, day by day (…)," President Vizcarra expressed. 

On his part, Minister Estrada pointed out this project will enable closing the water treatment gap in Piura region. Plus, it will eliminate the pollution problems that currently affect the population and provide the opportunity to utilize the treated waters for the agricultural activity
