Peru President: Political reform is supported by 70% of citizens

11:29 | Lima, May. 6.

President Martin Vizcarra hopes Peruvian Congress will promptly debate the political reform supported by 70% of citizens.

"The population supports the political reforms because they want more solid institutions, a stronger democracy, and a greater representation by their authorities. That is what the political reform seeks," the Head of State expressed.

In this sense, the top official urged Congress to pay attention and promptly discuss the political reform proposals submitted by his administration.

On the other hand, he stressed his concern regarding parliamentary immunity.

"It is not possible that for the case of one lawmaker, it took over eight months to solve the parliamentary immunity issue. That must be corrected and changed," the statesman said.

Furthermore, he urged Congress to address the political-judicial reforms requested by the Inca country's citizens.
