Peru President meets with CIES to address reconstruction process

15:13 | Lima, Jun. 12.

President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday held a meeting with Economic and Social Research Consortium (CIES) members to discuss the reconstruction process in northern Peru.

The gathering served to address the main measures taken by the Peruvian Government to speed up the implementation of projects in regions affected by Coastal El Niño phenomenon.

As is known, the Inca nation was at the mercy of this climate phenomenon last year. The event was characterized by heavy rains, landslides, and floods, which left thousands of citizens homeless.

At the meeting, CIES representatives provided a series of recommendations on the matter. They also presented a document titled "Reconstruction of the North 2018-2021."

For his part, the Peruvian leader welcomed said contribution and pointed out the Government will take into account those recommendations in order to optimize the reconstruction process, whose central axis is the citizen.

The meeting was held at Lima-based Government Palace.

It saw the presence of Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva, Authority for Reconstruction with Changes Chief Edgar Quispe, Canadian Ambassador to Lima Gwyneth Kutz, and CIES CEO Javier Portocarrero.

Ministers Javier Pique (Housing, Construction, and Sanitation), Silvia Pessah (Health), Carlos Oliva (Economy and Finance), and Edmer Trujillo (Transport) also attended this gathering.
