The Government of Peru will propose several legislative reforms to speed up the reconstruction process in regions hit by "
Coastal El Niño" climate phenomenon more than a year ago, President Martin Vizcarra announced Tuesday.
Vizcarra explained the proposals will be drawn up by Prime Minister
Cesar Villanueva on May 2 as he sets out his administration's guidelines and requests Congress' confidence vote.
The remarks were made as the President supervised the entry into service of Las Torres Bridge in Lima Metropolitan Area's Lurigancho-Chosica district.
"We need a change in the rules because if they remain as they are now, we won't be able to place
emphasis on reconstruction," the statesman expressed.
"We must attend reconstruction more rapidly, and we also need a regulatory change for that," he added.
Joined by Transport Minister Edmer Trujillo and Authority for Reconstruction with Changes Chief Edgar Quispe, the Head of State highlighted the importance of
working closely with Congress to pursue a growth-oriented agenda in the Inca country.
As he remarked, the works specified a long time ago cannot be postponed due to "problems in the regulations."
"That's why we are in the field getting information, listening to the population, to start working and meeting their needs," Vizcarra told reporters.
