The President of the Republic, Keiko Fujimori, on Sunday morning called on citizens to go to the polls and vote in the 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections.

"I have just exercised my right and duty to vote. It is very important to call on all citizens to go to the polls," Fujimori told the press after casting her ballot at Libertador San Martin School in Lima's San Borja district.

The Head of State said she had received reports from Ministers Cesar Astudillo (Interior) and Rafael Belaunde (Defense) that both the Peruvian National Police and the Armed Forces have been deployed at all polling stations to ensure order.

"I also call on citizens to exercise their right to vote today consciously, seeking the best citizens to serve as future district and provincial mayors and future regional governors," she emphasized.

The top official stressed that these future authorities are essential to working together with the Government to address the country's main challenges.

The President also wished the candidates good luck.

Today, Sunday, October 4, the 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections are being held nationwide to elect a total of 13,148 subnational authorities, including regional governors and deputy governors, regional councilors, provincial and district mayors, as well as provincial and district councilors.

For this election day, polling tables are scheduled to remain open from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to facilitate voting by citizens, the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) reported.
