The National Elections Board (JNE) deployed nearly 30,000 electoral inspectors nationwide to monitor the progress of the Regional and Municipal Elections, which are proceeding normally so far, JNE spokesperson Roman Campos stated Sunday morning.

The official said nearly 10,000 polling stations and nearly 90,000 polling tables will be used on election day.

"We have nearly 30,000 electoral inspectors deployed. We have nearly 26,000 polling-station inspectors, in addition to district inspectors, provincial inspectors, and electoral oversight coordinators," Campos stated.

He explained that electoral inspectors perform their duties throughout election day.

They must report any incidents that may occur during the setup of the polling tables, voting, and vote-counting stages.

"Basically, their job is to ensure and verify that the election proceeds in accordance with the Constitution, electoral laws, and regulations established by the National Elections Board, in order to carry out this oversight work," he told RPP.

So far, according to the JNE spokesperson, the reports they have received indicate that the electoral process is proceeding normally.

Campos said certain situations have prompted complaints from citizens because some polling tables have not yet been set up this morning due to the absence of polling-station officials.

"Until a short while ago, more than 80% of the polling tables had been set up. I understand that as the day progresses, we will reach—and we are very optimistic that we will—the goal of having 100% set up before noon," Campos stated.

In this regard, he called on polling-station officials to go to their assigned locations so that they could set up the polling tables.

The official also asked electors to be patient.

He urged them, if their assigned polling tables lack the designated polling-station officials, to step in so that voting could begin and proceed normally.
