Peru President: July 27 and 29 to be declared working days

13:41 | Lima, Jul. 3.

President Martin Vizcarra on Friday announced that July 27 and 29 will be declared working days nationwide and only July 28 —the day of the national independence anniversary— will be a holiday this month.

Within this framework, the Head of State said that the corresponding regulations will be issued to make the provision official, which aims to continue boosting the economic reactivation.

As is known, the Economic Reactivation's Phase 3 began last Wednesday in Peru.

"This July, we are going to make all efforts to generate more jobs, and we need to make the most of it (...)," he expressed.

The top official noted that the measure is adopted in order not to waste more time and articulate all efforts to produce, grow, and create more jobs for Peruvians.

The statesman also recalled that July 27 had been initially declared a holiday by supreme decree before the first COVID-19 case was registered in the country in March. However, that provision will be amended.

"We need to create jobs at this stage of the economic reactivation," he stressed.

Remarks were made after supervising the Lima-based Huiracocha Park Temporary Hospital designed for the care of moderate COVID-19 patients.

Quarantine

Arequipa, Ica, Junin, Huanuco, San Martin, Madre de Dios, and Ancash remain under mandatory social isolation. In those areas, residents are allowed to leave their homes only to have access to essential services and goods and to carry out authorized economic activities.
