The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Friday morning arrived in Piura region to deliver 9,360 Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines for the immunization of older adults in this northern Peruvian jurisdiction.

"Today, we continue on the Route of Hope bringing vaccine doses to Piura and Tumbes. Yesterday, we distributed more than 150,000 doses in five regions. Rest assured that we are working to immunize our seniors as quickly as possible. They are our priority," he wrote on Twitter.

Once in the area, the Head of State remarked that his administration's objective is to
deliver doses aimed at vaccinating all older adults before his term in office ends on July 28, 2021.

In April, Piura will receive a total of 21,060 Pfizer doses for adults aged over 80 —of which 9,360 arrived today— followed by 11,200 next week.

The top official confirmed that both AstraZeneca and Pfizer doses are safe and help prevent hospitalization, as well as deaths from the disease.

In addition, the statesman mentioned that all efforts are being made —by the Government, civil society, and private sector— to obtain oxygen plants and alleviate the situation faced by many regions.

After insisting on continuing to comply with preventive measures —such as wearing face masks and maintaining physical distancing— Mr. Sagasti welcomed civility and citizen participation in the April 11 general elections.

With a view to the runoff (on June 6), it is important to make sure that people will not participate in massive events which endanger their lives, he commented.

On this occasion, the Head of State was joined by Ministers Oscar Ugarte (Health), Claudia Cornejo (Foreign Trade and Tourism), and region's Governor Servando Garcia.
