The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Thursday affirmed that his administration's goal is to ensure the largest number of doses required to revaccinate the population in the near future, since experts warn that the COVID-19 pandemic will continue for quite some time.

Therefore, the Head of State said his administration continues to negotiate with different laboratories to increase the amount of available doses with the aim of ensuring the protection of "all citizens, not just once but many times."

"That is our goal, and we want to leave the next government with not only the doses to vaccinate everyone (this year), but to revaccinate them," Mr. Sagasti pointed out from Huancavelica region.

"Make no mistake, this is not a pandemic that comes like waves, it rises and falls. Therefore, it will be difficult and complicated, and it will still have a relatively high level," he indicated.

Safe vaccines

"The only way to rely on a shield against the coronavirus is to get vaccinated and follow biosafety protocols such as using a face mask that covers the nose and mouth, maintaining social distance and, if you are traveling by bus, opening the windows and wearing a face shield," he indicated.

Furthermore, the statesman explained that the side effects linked to this vaccine are extremely rare cases in people who have previous conditions. That is why he urged citizens not to fear vaccination.

President Sagasti also assured that he will continue delivering vaccines to regions for the immunization of older adults. In fact, 4,200 doses arrived today in Puerto Maldonado, followed by 31,040 doses in Cusco and 55,130 in Juliaca.

In addition, Mr. Sagasti announced that he will travel to northern Tumbes and Piura regions delivering doses for immunization on Friday.
