Peru President: "Corrupt people must be removed from the justice system"

16:33 | Pucallpa (Ucayali region), Aug. 9.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday emphasized the importance of removing corrupt magistrates and officials from the justice system.

According to him, this will only be accomplished with the proposed reforms and the support of Peruvian citizens.

He went on to add money raised by the State must be well spent and without any indication of corruption

"We will never achieve development if our society is infected with corruption. We have to fight it, and we will, no matter who falls," the Head of Stated stressed.

Regarding the released audio recordings —containing irregular acts within the Judicial Branch— he said it is impossible to patch it, adding the entire Peruvian justice system must be reformed

"The removal of just one corrupt person isn't enough, all of them must go. That's the goal of the justice system reform. Therefore, we have asked the people to voice their opinion about amending the National Council of the Magistracy (CNM) election system (…)," he said.

Likewise, Peru's top official highlighted that honesty is the most important requirement for a judge in the Inca country, and this will be achieved with citizens' support.

Later on Thursday, President Vizcarra submitted to Congress the constitutional reform projects for the justice system.
