Peru President: Conditions exist for development, progress

13:33 | Lima, Mar. 14.

President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday affirmed Peru has the conditions to be on the right track towards achieving progress and development by the nation's Independence Bicentennial in 2021.

In this sense, the Inca country posted a 4% economic growth in 2018, despite the difficult political context.

"Tax collection increased from 13.4% to 14.5% and public investment exceeded S/33 billion (over US$10 billion). It is a historical record that has reverted the three-year negative trend," the Head of State expressed in this sense.

"If Peru is now politically stable, relying on new regional and local authorities who are committed to working for the provinces' development, and on a State that knows what we want to accomplish, then we will have better results than in 2018," he added.

According to the top official, the last coordination effort among officials is needed, so it can be translated into improvements for the Inca country's population

For that reason, he urged authorities not to pass up on this opportunity and to achieve —through adequate public management— the well-being all Peruvians require

Remarks were made during an international forum held in Lima sponsored by the Economy-Finance Ministry and the Inter-American Development Bank.
