Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday requested the National Election Board (JNE) to shorten the deadlines —following the January 26 extraordinary parliamentary elections— for the prompt installation and functioning of the new Congress of the Republic.
"We respectfully ask the
National Election Board to shorten the deadlines. We need the (new) Congress members to assume duties quickly, in the shortest time possible," he expressed.
"We have the people's support," he stated.
The new 130 legislators will serve the remaining period of the 2016-2021 legislative tenure, following the dissolution of Congress.
