President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday announced an agreement signing between Peruvian company Volcan and Chinese firm Cosco Shipping Ports Limited for the construction of a port terminal —worth US$3 billion— in Lima region's Chancay City.
Said accord was signed within the framework of the
World Economic Forum, in which Vice-President Mercedes Araoz currently participates.
In this sense, the Head of State indicated the construction of this new terminal will create a hub and provide a better port offer in South America, as it will work closely with Callao region.
Trust in Peru
"This type of investment, this type of trust in our country's private investment, give us the foundations and confidence to guarantee the development of all Peruvians," the top official expressed.
Port Terminal
Chancay Port Terminal will handle cargo transshipments for South America's west coast countries. It will also be the central point of trade link
between China and the Inca nation.
Furthermore, said infrastructure will enable the development of
production, trade, and exports. Plus, it will generate direct
jobs in the area and boost diverse activities for the benefit of the population.
Remarks were made during a project presentation. On the occasion, he was joined by Ministers Javier Pique (Housing, Construction and Sanitation), Jose Huerta (Defense), and Edmer Trujillo (Transport and Communications), as well as Lima Mayor Jorge Muñoz.
