Peru President: Chinchero Airport should be completed by 2021

12:32 | Cusco (Cusco region), Dec. 7.

President Martin Vizcarra on Friday affirmed his administration expects the Chinchero Airport construction to be finished by 2021, on the occasion of Peru's Independence Bicentennial.

"Our proposal and bet are for it (the airport) to become one of Peru's emblematic works by the Bicentennial celebrations," the Head of State expressed.

He indicated this public project will be carried out in two stages. The first one is land clearance, which will last nine months.

Likewise, the top official informed said countries will have until February to submit a technical, economic, and operative proposal in order to continue with earth-moving activities and start corresponding construction works.

Therefore, deadlines will be met since the project is planned to be finished in three years.

In this sense, President Vizcarra projected the agreement will be awarded in the first half of 2019, adding the budget intended for the air terminal has been secured at 100%.

"Be assured it will not have any financing problems," he added.

Concerning the Public Ministry's investigation on the previous Chinchero contract, the statesman expressed his willingness to cooperate with any probe.

Moreover, he reaffirmed judicial processes should not paralyze this work that has been demanded by Cusco's population for 20 years.
