Peru PM will seek to unlock projects to benefit the population

14:25 | Lima, Jul. 18.

Peruvian Prime Minister Pedro Cateriano on Saturday assured that his administration will seek to unlock some projects necessary to benefit the population and the reactivation of the economy, which had been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Eight million compatriots do not have access to water, that is a concern for the Government; thus, we will seek to find projects, for example, now that the north is going through a reconstruction process. There, we will promote drinking water initiatives, as it is not possible that Tumbes and Piura do not have access to water (services)," he told RPP radio and TV station.

Cateriano also mentioned that there are other projects —such as the Chancay Port— which will boost international trade, in addition to other initiatives within the Transport and Communications sector that Reactiva Peru Program leads through employment for road maintenance.

"This international crisis causes metal prices to rise; thus, we want ore accumulated in mines to be extracted and exported, because that generates income for the country. The only way to banish poverty and fight unemployment is by generating wealth, and the only way is with public, private, and foreign investment," he said.

"We must meet those objectives," he concluded.
