Peru PM to visit Apurimac region and comply with accords

10:42 | Lima, Apr. 8.

Peruvian Prime Minister Salvador del Solar affirmed he will visit Challhuahuacho district in Apurimac region this Thursday, thus complying with the accords adopted by the Executive Branch, MMG mining company, and Fuerabamba community leader Gregorio Rojas.

According to the high-ranking official, the ministerial commission —composed of Ministers Zulema Tomas (Health), Paola Bustamante (Development-Social Inclusion), and Edmer Trujillo (Transport-Communications)— will visit the district, provided that the protesters remove the road blockade.

In this sense, he indicated that if the protests end, the Government will lift the emergency state in the area.

Likewise, Del Solar mentioned ministers will address the execution of Cotabambas Province's development plan with the communities.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister stressed the accord adopted with the Fuerabamba community leader —last weekend— is official, adding that Rojas is the valid speaker, who promised to ask the protesters about the agreed terms.

"There is an agreement that has been difficult to reach and which has been the outcome of dialogue (...)," Del Solar expressed.

"We have reached an agreement that is official," he stressed.

Agreement

Last Saturday, Executive Branch authorities, Fuerabamba community leaders, and MMG mining company representatives reached diverse accords aimed at solving Las Bambas conflict

Within this framework, the protesters will remove the road blockade that passes through the Yavi Yavi estate.

In addition, Las Bambas mining company and Fuerabamba community agreed on an economic accord that benefits both of them.

The agreement was signed by Prime Minister Salvador del Solar, Fuerabamba community leader Gregorio Rojas, Las Bambas mining company General Manager Edgardo Orderique, and Peruvian Episcopal Conference (CEP) President Monsignor Miguel Cabrejos.
