In statements to the Cuarto Poder TV news program, the top official said she also asked U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to reassess the tariffs during their recent meeting.
"Yes, we mentioned it to him during the private meeting (with Marco Rubio). He took note and said that this is not a matter under his purview, but that he would convey it," Fujimori recalled.
"So, when we travel to New York, pending Senate approval, Foreign Trade Minister Rogers Valencia will accompany us; therefore, we hope there will be an opportunity to have the tariffs for our country reassessed," she indicated.
Precisely, the Executive Branch has asked the Senate to authorize President Fujimori to leave Peru from September 21 to 25, 2026, so that she can travel to New York City, United States, to participate in the 81st session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.
Asked about Peru's entry into the Shield of the Americas, the President said that joining the coalition will mean restoring calm, peace, and order.
"In the long term, we would like the United States to continue investing, to transfer knowledge to us, to participate in investments in competitive logistics, to support us on educational issues, and to invest," Fujimori noted.
She also expressed her gratitude for the North American country sending the USNS Comfort hospital ship, which has a capacity of more than 1,000 beds, to support the city of Paita and the entire northern Peruvian coast in the event of the possible arrival of El Niño phenomenon.
