Peru PM: New energy and approach for reconstruction

12:25 | Piura (Piura region), Mar. 29.

Peruvian Prime Minister Salvador del Solar on Friday affirmed the reconstruction with changes-related process will have new energy and approach, emphasizing project execution.

Part of that approach is the appointment of former Lima Region Governor Nelson Chui as Executive-Director for the Authority of Reconstruction with Changes, thus replacing Edgar Quispe.

In this sense, the Prime Minister noted the designation of Chui as the person in charge of the reconstruction process, highlighting his experience as a governor.

As is known, northern Peru was hit by Coastal El Niño floods in 2017. Said weather event was characterized by heavy rains, landslides, and floods, which destroyed infrastructure and crops, therefore leaving many citizens homeless.

According to the official, the process' approach was focused on achieving resource allocation to regional and local governments in order to finance the works in benefit of the areas hit by the phenomenon and the affected families.

However, since this stage has concluded, it is time to prioritize project execution and the implementation of works, the cabinet chief indicated.

Likewise, Del Solar assured this new phase of the reconstruction process will be permanently supervised by the State and its competent institutions with the purpose of guaranteeing efficiency and transparency.

On the occasion, he was joined by Ministers Fabiola Muñoz (Agriculture and Irrigation), Carlos Oliva (Economy and Finance), and Carlos Bruce (Housing, Construction and Sanitation).
