Peru President: Reconstruction efforts have begun

14:45 | Tumbes (Tumbes region), Sep. 13.

President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday announced a S/22 million (over US$6.60 million) transfer to northern Tumbes region aimed at reconstruction efforts.

As is known, northern Peru was hit by Coastal El Niño floods last year. Said weather event was characterized by heavy rains, landslides, and floods, which destroyed infrastructure and crops, leaving many citizens homeless.

According to the Head of State, the budget is intended for roads, sidewalks —among others— to improve Tumbes' urban area.

"We are working, and we will continue working. We know the reconstruction is a process that has taken time. We have started it, and we won't stop it," the leader expressed.

"We're allocating the necessary funds," he added.

Even though the population has waited over a year for the reconstruction, dossiers have been updated and numerous processes have been unblocked in the nearly six months of his administration, the President pointed out.

"During the three years left of our administration, you will see that the problem affecting you in Tumbes will be overcome (...)," Vizcarra assured locals.

Remarks were made during the inspection of improvement works at Jose Lischner Tudela School.
