Peru: Over 7,000 healthcare workers already vaccinated against COVID-19

A total of 7,268 healthcare workers have been vaccinated against the novel coronavirus in various Peruvian regions as of February 10 at 2:00 p.m. (local time), Health Minister Pilar Mazzetti has reported.

Following the session of the Council of Ministers, the high-ranking official assured that "there have been no serious adverse events in the vaccination process so far."

The Cabinet member thanked the 1,000 vaccination nurses who are working to protect and immunize the staff on the front line of the fight against COVID-19 —a total of 141,367 healthcare workers nationwide.



The group prioritized in the first vaccination phase comprises 98,000 healthcare workers from the Health Ministry and health facilities run by regional governments.

In addition, staff members from the Social Health Insurance System-EsSalud (32,000); Armed Forces health services (3,000); National Police of Peru (700); and private sector employees (6,000), who work in the direct care of COVID-19 patients, will be immunized.


The Cabinet member also stressed the contribution of the Directorates of Integrated Health Networks (Diris), the Regional Health Directorates (Diresa), and the Regional Health Management Offices (Geresa).

Concerning transparency during the vaccination, she welcomed the participation of the Comptroller General, whose staff "is joining the process at the national level."
