A total of 240,450 vaccine doses against COVID-19 have been sent to Peruvian regions Ucayali, Huanuco, Pasco, Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Apurimac, Puno, Piura and Tumbes, with the purpose of starting the vaccination of people over 80 years of age, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) has reported.

The day before, authorities had delivered 44,350 and 26,620 AstraZeneca vaccines to Ayacucho and Huancavelica regions, respectively.

Within this framework, the top official reaffirmed that both AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines are completely safe.

"Have peace of mind and be confident; the vaccine is the best shield against the pandemic in the face of this terrible situation that we are experiencing in our country, the region, and other countries around the world. The vaccine is the best (tool that) we have (…)," he expressed.

Furthermore, Minister Ugarte pointed out that the vaccination process —being carried out by the Government— is transparent and based on the roll provided by the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec).

The Government began the distribution of vaccines in Ucayali region (21,990 doses), followed by Huanuco (43,430), Pasco (13,760), Apurimac (14,280), and Puno (55,130) regions through the National Center for Supply of Strategic Resources in Health (Cenares).
