Peru: Ministerial Cabinet gets confidence vote

The Peruvian Congress on Thursday afternoon granted its confidence to the Cabinet led by Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez.

The Cabinet received 111 votes in favor, 7 against, and 1 abstention.

The Prime Minister had arrived at Congress headquarters this morning joined by Cabinet members to report on the actions of the Executive Branch and present the Government's general policy to lawmakers.

In her speech, she addressed topics such as the fight against COVID-19 and the economic reactivation, among others.

Later, most legislators virtually expressed their views to the ministers.

As is known, Violeta Bermudez was sworn in as Prime Minister on November 18 by President Francisco Sagasti, who had become Head of State a day earlier.

President Sagasti replaces Manuel Merino, who stepped down on November 15 —after less than one week in office and amid major protests.
