The Ministry of Justice and Human Rights (Minjusdh) said in a statement that the Presidential Pardons Commission agreed to reject former President Pedro Castillo Terrones' request for clemency on humanitarian grounds and declared inadmissible his application for a regular pardon.

The government agency said both requests were reviewed by the commission during its regular session held Wednesday and denied "in accordance with the current legal framework."

"The Commission agreed to reject the request for clemency on humanitarian grounds because the inadmissibility previously identified was not remedied within the established deadline. Consequently, it ordered that the case be closed and archived," the statement said.

"During the same session, the Commission declared inadmissible the application for a regular pardon submitted by Mr. Jose Pedro Castillo Terrones for failing to meet the admissibility requirements established under the applicable regulations," it added.

The statement also noted that, under the Internal Regulations of the Presidential Pardons Commission, applications declared inadmissible must be remedied within the corresponding 20-day period.

"Once that deadline expires without the required deficiencies having been remedied, the application must be rejected and archived," the Justice Ministry pointed out.

Finally, the government agency reaffirmed its commitment to "an objective, impartial approach strictly subject to the Constitution, the law, and the current legal framework."
