On his second day of work in southern Puno region, Peruvian Justice and Human Rights Minister Vicente Zeballos led the third edition of social action in Capaso district, located at a height of approximately 5,000 meters above sea level.
Led by President Martin Vizcarra's administration, the campaign aims at protecting High-Andean residents from low temperatures.
According to the official, the State is present in the most remote places of the national territory and takes effective actions to support the citizens affected by
frost and friaje (cold spell).
"We won't forget about you no matter the distance, altitude or weather. We've come on behalf of the President to bring you
aid, in an articulated manner, with all sectors," Minister Zeballos expressed.
"This isn't a palliative, it's a Government strategy," he added.
Teams from the Health, Agriculture, Education, Development and Social Inclusion Ministries; the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci); the Army; and the National Police joined efforts to provide medical attention, bales of hay for the cattle, cold-proof clothes, and
blankets, among others, to the vulnerable population.
These are preventive actions since the district has been declared in state of emergency due to a new cold wave forecasted to hit Capaso in the next few days.
The State will continue to provide support, the minister promised.
To this day, non-perishable foods, warm clothes, and veterinary kits
have been distributed to over 2,000 people in the area.
