The Peruvian State —through the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci)— has distributed a total of 1,324.79 tons of humanitarian aid across regions hit by extremely low temperatures, Defense Minister Jose Huerta informed Friday.
"This is a very important
government action, with this aid we are covering all areas requiring
humanitarian assistance," the official said while noting said efforts are part of the government's 2018 Frost and Friaje (cold spell) Multisectoral Mitigation Plan.
Likewise, he pointed out State ministers —on Friday—
visited diverse regions whose districts have been declared under state of emergency due to extreme cold weather. They supervised the distribution of 508.43 tons of humanitarian aid.
For his part, Huerta arrived in Huancavelica province's Nuevo Occoro district to oversee the delivery of 4 tons of non-perishable food, 680 blankets, 60 beds, 60 mattresses, and 108 aluminum roofing sheets.
It must be noted President Martin Vizcarra's administration has already distributed 467 tons of
humanitarian aid between April and May of the current year.
Furthermore, 349.36 tons of aid —including non-perishable food, blankets, warm clothes, and tools to face frosts— have been handed over in 55 districts belonging to 11 regions declared under the state of emergency.
Beneficiaries are citizens from
Apurimac,
Ayacucho, Arequipa, Cusco, Huancavelica, Huanuco, Junin,
Moquegua, Pasco, Puno, and Tacna regions.
