Peru held by Paraguay in U-20 championship

Peru picked up their first point in the final stage of the U-20 South American Championship with a 1-1 draw against Paraguay on Wednesday.

Defender Miguel Araujo opened the scoring for Peru with a header in the 28th minute, but Paraguay's Junior Alonso got the equalizer eight minutes from time.

The draw left La Blanquirroja fifth in the six-team championship group with one point from two games, only ahead of winless Ecuador. Paraguay are second on four points.

Meanwhile, Colombia beat Uruguay 1-0 to top the table with six points and third-place Chile trashed Ecuador 4-1.

The tournament, held in Argentina, ends on February 3 with four teams advancing to the U-20 World Cup this year in Turkey. South American powers Brazil and Argentina were eliminated in the first stage.
