Finnish Ambassador to Peru Lasse Keisalo highlighted Piura's economic, educational, and technological potential during his first official visit to the northern region.

The diplomat held meetings with representatives from the business sector, universities, and productive sectors as part of an agenda prepared by the Honorary Consulate of Finland in Piura and northern Peru, headed by Javier Bereche.

Bereche coordinated institutional meetings, visits to productive sectors, as well as a reception attended by business leaders, authorities, and representatives from various economic fields.

The ambassador said one of the main objectives of his visit was to gain firsthand knowledge of Piura's economic and social situation, as well as identify opportunities for cooperation between Finland and the country's northern region.

"Piura and Peru are friendly countries and partners. We have very positive relations and can focus on a common agenda linked to trade, education, and technology," he stated.

During his visit, the diplomat toured academic institutions and held meetings with representatives linked to agro-exports, fishing, mining, and tourism, sectors he considered strategic for promoting future partnerships and cooperation projects.

Keisalo additionally highlighted the presence of Finnish companies in the region, such as Vaisala, which specializes in technological and meteorological solutions, as well as the international track record of Nokia.

"We are countries that complement each other in many sectors," the diplomatic representative underscored.

"Finland can learn from Peru, and Peru can also learn from Finland," he added.

A new stage

In turn, Bereche explained that the visit marks the beginning of a new stage of greater presence and coordination by the Honorary Consulate of Finland in Piura.

He said the agenda will focus on promoting opportunities for cooperation, academic exchange, innovation, and productive development for the region.

Bereche indicated that the consulate seeks to become a strategic ally for business leaders, universities, institutions, and citizens interested in building ties with Finland, facilitating access to information on scholarships, studies, financing, technical assistance, and opportunities for technological cooperation.

"The message we want to convey to the community is that the Honorary Consulate of Finland in Piura is now more active than ever, working closely with the region's various sectors and making cooperation channels available in key areas such as education, innovation, sustainability, and productive development," he stated.

Bereche also noted that the consulate will continue promoting meeting spaces between public and private sector stakeholders, with the aim of strengthening institutional relations and generating concrete development opportunities for Piura and the country's northern region.
