The Government on Thursday unveiled the "2026-2029 Intersectoral Roadmap: Toward a Health System with OECD Standards" during an official ceremony held at Government Palace in Lima.

At this event, President Jose Maria Balcazar highlighted the priority of strengthening healthcare services nationwide.

During the ceremony, Health Minister Juan Velasco outlined the document's main guidelines and formally presented it to the Head of State.

According to the Cabinet member, the proposal guides the sector's reform around three axes.

"First, improve access to and quality of healthcare services. Second, strengthen efficiency and financial sustainability. Third, enhance resilience against pandemics and global health threats," he indicated.

After receiving the roadmap, the Head of State highlighted the importance of healthcare within public policies.

"There is no axis that does not begin with healthcare for the population; everything else comes afterward," Balcazar said.

"With this roadmap, what we want is to send the message that there is a deficit. We must expand healthcare for all Peruvians. (...) I believe this roadmap that has just been introduced will deliver positive results," he added.

Following Wednesday's presentation of the feasibility study for the Hospital Dos de Mayo modernization project, the President said this constitutes a message underscoring the priority given to citizens' health.

In this regard, he thanked those supporting the implementation of the roadmap and acknowledged the work carried out by the country's doctors.
