Peru Fin Min: GDP may have accelerated in July, August 2019
13:44
| Lima, Sep. 6.
Economy and Finance Minister Carlos Oliva on Friday informed Peruvian economy may have accelerated in July and August 2019; this strengthens the forecasts projecting
GDP will increase 3% this year
.
As is known,
Peruvian economy grew 2.62% in June
.
According to the cabinet member,
GDP growth in July may have been better compared to that of June, and August's growth may have been higher than July's
.
Likewise, he pointed out this
result was underpinned by primary sectors' recovery
, which registered a slowdown in the first half of 2019, affecting GDP performance.
"During the recent months, we have seen a recovery linked to the primary activity, such as
mining
, primary manufacturing, and
fishing
," Oliva added.
In this sense, he indicated
Peruvian economy has been recording —since June— a slow but sustained recovery
.
Remarks were made during his presentation at Congress' Budget Commission.
