Peru Fin Min: GDP may have accelerated in July, August 2019

Economy and Finance Minister Carlos Oliva on Friday informed Peruvian economy may have accelerated in July and August 2019; this strengthens the forecasts projecting GDP will increase 3% this year.

As is known, Peruvian economy grew 2.62% in June.

According to the cabinet member, GDP growth in July may have been better compared to that of June, and August's growth may have been higher than July's.

Likewise, he pointed out this result was underpinned by primary sectors' recovery, which registered a slowdown in the first half of 2019, affecting GDP performance.

"During the recent months, we have seen a recovery linked to the primary activity, such as mining, primary manufacturing, and fishing," Oliva added.

In this sense, he indicated Peruvian economy has been recording —since June— a slow but sustained recovery.

Remarks were made during his presentation at Congress' Budget Commission.
