Peru FA Min: It is time to make decision on Venezuelan situation

17:22 | Lima, Aug. 6.

Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Nestor Popolizio on Tuesday affirmed it is time to make decisions concerning the political, economic, social, and humanitarian crisis in Venezuela.

"Its attention is urgent and cannot be postponed. Indifference from the international community is not an option when the Venezuelan population itself is demanding solidarity from our countries. The world is expecting our result," the high-ranking official said.

According to Popolizio, the International Conference for Democracy in Venezuela was boosted by Lima Group member countries and gathers —for the first time— delegations from the five continents.

Humanitarian crisis

Likewise, he pointed out the current humanitarian crisis in the Bolivarian country has forced four million citizens to leave their homes, adding it is an exodus without precedent in the region.

Furthermore, the official noted the region's States have undertaken efforts to meet the needs of Venezuelans.

However, the minister expressed his concern as the situation —affecting Venezuelans— has not stopped worsening. In addition, its impact has become global.
