Peru: Cusco already in Lima 2019 mode

16:06 | Cusco (Cusco region), Jul. 3.

Cusco is already experiencing the joy of Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games, to be held for the first time in Peru.

The so-called "archaeological capital of the Americas" was chosen as the start point of the Lima 2019 Pan American Torch Relay and related celebratory events.

The Pan American flame coming from Mexico, where the fire lighting ceremony took place, will be taken to the ancient sanctuary of Machu Picchu to begin a 23-day journey across 26 cities in the Andes, jungle and coast of Peru.

Cusco locals are excited about this activity, as it will start the last stage of preparations for the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.

Cusco's main square has been decorated with Lima 2019 Torch replicas, which are appreciated by both locals and hundreds of foreign visitors.

Milco, the official mascot for the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games and the sensation of celebratory events in Cusco, arrived in the Imperial City to join the torch relay and be part of this historic moment.
