Milco has been announced as the official mascot for the Lima 2019 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games.

Announcement took place in a ceremony held in the Peruvian capital, Lima.

It must be noted a record number of 44,514 people from Peru and abroad participated in the voting process.

Last month, the Lima 2019 Organizing Committee revealed the three finalists, shortlisting Milco, Amantis and Wayqi.

The winning-design —created by Andrea Medrano— collected 19,895 votes, followed by Wayqi, the gecko, (17,274) and Amantis, inspired by the Flower of Amancaes (7,345).

Milco is based on a 'cuchimilco,' a ceramic sculpture from cultures across central western Peru (Lima, Chancay and Chincha).

The major sporting event will take place in the Peruvian capital from July 26 - August 11, with 6,695 athletes from 41 countries competing in 38 sports and 55 disciplines.
