Peru: Congress approves second political reform bill

Peruvian Congress on Tuesday approved the political reform bill that modifies Law 28094 —Law of Political Organizations— aimed at promoting political participation and democracy within political parties.

The proposal received 70 votes in favor, 23 against, and 16 abstentions.

According to Constitution Commission Chairwoman Rosa Bartra, some clarifications were made to the approved initiative.

This is the second political reform bill of the six that were included in the confidence motion presented by the Vizcarra administration.

Peruvian Congress Chairman Daniel Salaverry on Monday announced Parliament is currently in a permanent session in order to debate the political reform bills submitted by the Executive Branch months ago.

As is known, President Martin Vizcarra's administration intends to implement reforms to enhance the political-judicial system. Plus, it launched a crusade against corruption.
