During a plenary session on Friday, Parliament approved the draft legislative resolution that recommends constitutionally accusing ex-President Pedro Castillo of the alleged commission of crimes, such as (being part of an) aggravated criminal organization, aggravated influence peddling, and collusion.

Prior to this procedure, it was decided that each of the conclusions of the final report, approved by the Sub-commission on Constitutional Accusations, would be voted on separately.

There were 59 votes in favor, 23 against, and 3 abstentions during the session.

In this sense, it is determined that there is cause for filing a criminal case against Castillo in his capacity as ex-President of the Republic —for the alleged commission of crimes against public tranquility in the modality of aggravated criminal organization.

They also include the alleged commission of the crime against public administration committed by officials in the modality of aggravated influence peddling, and being an alleged accomplice to the crime against public administration in the form of collusion.

Besides, lawmakers established that the corresponding file will be submitted to the Attorney General for her to proceed in accordance with her powers.

Ex-ministers

On the other hand, with 87 votes in favor, zero against, and zero abstentions, the conclusion regarding the constitutional accusation against former Transportation and Communications Minister Juan Silva Villegas was approved.

The case of the former government official involves the alleged crimes against public tranquility in the form of criminal organization and collusion.

On the other hand, 80 votes in favor, zero against, and 1 abstention allowed Parliament to constitutionally accuse Geiner Alvarado —in his capacity as former Housing, Construction, and Sanitation minister.

Alvarado is accused of the alleged commission of crimes against public tranquility in the form of criminal organization to the detriment of the Peruvian State.

The files on both ex-ministers will also be submitted to the Attorney General for her to proceed in accordance with her powers.
