The Peruvian Government on Monday congratulated Colombian authorities and citizens on the presidential election held in the neighboring country on Sunday, May 31.
Via X, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the election day was exemplary and demonstrated the Colombian people’s democratic and civic spirit.
"The Government of Peru congratulates the people and authorities of Colombia on the exemplary presidential election day held on May 31, which demonstrates the Colombian people's strong civic and democratic spirit, their renewed commitment to the institutional framework, the rule of law, as well as their aspiration to live in peace and freedom," the post reads.
On Sunday, Colombian citizens went to the polls to elect their new President of the Republic.
Presidential candidates Abelardo de la Espriella and Ivan Cepeda will face off in a runoff election on June 21, according to the official results.
