10:39 | Lima, Jul. 14.

Peru's Defense and Interior Ministers Jorge Moscoso and Carlos Moran, respectively, affirmed their respective sectors' commitment to pacifying the Valley of Apurimac, Ene, and Mantaro rivers (VRAEM) by 2021.

Moran asserted that VRAEM's pacification will be achieved thanks to the decisive effort by the Peruvian State.

"It is a government policy that remains firm, and we are consistent in this effort, for which a framework will be provided," he added.

In this context, the minister said the Government is on the right track to achieving this goal.

"We will continue along this path," he noted.

For his part, the Defense head underscored that both the State and Government are firmly convinced that the VRAEM region will be fully pacified by 2021.

"We are committed to this effort since the first day we came into office," he stressed.

Moscoso also expressed appreciation for all combatants who currently fight to pacify VRAEM, as well as for those courageous soldiers and police officers who gave their lives to this cause.

As is known, concerted efforts of Peru's Armed Forces and National Police have led to the recent capture of the infamous Shining Path terrorist known as Comrade Julio Chapo.
